taking control of news as a non-journalist
the department of defense was influenced by the citizens
3 benefits of this:
1 people have access to information at any time
2 internet: reliable, accessible, etc.
3 kept journlists honest
companies can now learn from their customers and consumers can now learn what is available from compkanies
RSS feeds have changed everything in terms of keeping people up to date
groove networks: CEO's should write the blogs for their companies so consumers feel more connected to these various companies
can companies give an impression of openness without actually being open?
--yes, ultimately... But it is more dangerous/difficult for these companies
are there companies that you prefer because of their websites/blogs?
--I find that companies that overly promote themselves online are actually annoying
--examples that come to mind are things in entertaiment

main reasons you might start a blog to help your company:
1 right wrongs/correct misconceptions about your company
2 spread word about your company
etc.
4 points to bloggin well:
1 tell the truth
2 post fast (whether good or bad)
3 have a thick skin (you will get criticized)
4 go to the grass roots
Perez hilton is an example of someone that has created a successful website by having a strong opinion, staying current, etc---- being controversial helps him
what kinds of responsibilities do these professional websites have to adhere to?
--sites like this do not have to tell the truth. In fact they benefit from inflaming incidents and provoking opinions
fundamentals to blogging:
1 get peoples opinions
2 have a strong opinion, back it up

3 have/ask questions, find out what people are interested in, etc
Why should CEOs of major companies blog?
